Why Is Google Ads Showing Pictures From My Google Business Profile?

If you’ve ever searched for your business online to see how your Google Ads campaigns are performing, you may have noticed something unexpected: pictures in your ad that you didn’t manually upload to your Google Ads account.

These images are often pulled directly from your Google Business Profile (GBP), and while this might work for some businesses, it can be problematic for others—especially if you have a large collection of photos uploaded by customers, clients, or your team. Sometimes, the images Google selects may not align with your branding or the context of your ad campaign.

Fortunately, opting out of this feature is quick and easy.

How to Stop Google Ads From Using Your Google Business Profile Pictures

Follow these simple steps to prevent Google from pulling photos from your Google Business Profile into your ads:

  • Log into Your Google Ads Account
  • Navigate to the Assets tab.
  • On the far right of the screen, click the three dots labeled More.
  • From the dropdown menu, select Account-Level Automated Assets.
  • Once again, click on the three dots and select More.
  • In the dropdown menu, click Advanced Settings.
  • From the list of automated assets, locate Automated Locations.
  • Uncheck the box that reads: “Grant Google Ads license to use merchant photos and other rich media from the linked Google Business Profiles in the advertising campaigns from this account.”
  • Click Save.

Once you’ve completed these steps, Google Ads will no longer use images from your Google Business Profile. Instead, your ads will only display the images you’ve intentionally uploaded under the Image tab in the Assets section.
