Frequently Asked Questions About Web Design & Development
What is the OEPMA web design process?
Our process begins with a deep dive into your business, clients, and customers. We design websites that are built to convert visitors into paying customers or clients. It’s important that we get as much information as possible.
First, we’ll have a conversation with you to gather data and get a sense of your preferences. We’ll ask you to provide your elevator pitch about what you want from your website and may request 5-10 examples of websites you really like. We also research your competitors to analyze their strategies and identify ways we can beat them. We’ll create a hierarchy of your potential website to show you, which essentially maps out every page of your website and how they will be associated with parent and child pages, creating the overall “flow” of the website.
If we both agree to move forward with the web design project, a contract will be signed, and a 50% deposit will be required before we begin the design process.
After the deposit is paid, we move into the planning phase, where we create drafts of the website and present them to you to ensure we’re fulfilling your vision.
Once all elements are agreed upon, we begin designing the website. At this stage, we’ll need assets from you, including branding elements, photos, etc. We’ll also need to know where you want certain elements to route to, such as form submissions, newsletter sign-ups, quote requests, and more.
After the design is complete and any revisions are made, we ensure that you’re satisfied with the final product. Once the remaining 50% is paid, we will launch your website.
If you require ongoing maintenance, we offer monthly packages at an affordable rate. This ensures that we’re available to make any necessary changes as your business evolves. Many of our clients choose to stay with us for maintenance after a website design, as it provides peace of mind knowing that we’re there to help if anything happens.
All of our website builds include syncing with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, Google Looker Studio for conversion reporting, and SEO-optimized page titles and descriptions.
How much will it cost to have OEPMA design and develop my website?
The cost of having OEPMA design or redesign your website can vary depending on your specific needs, but generally falls within the range of $1,000 to $15,000.
Several factors influence the final price:
Complexity of design: A minimal website will generally cost less than a website that requires rich graphics and heavy customization.
Content / SEO: If you already have content ready to be deployed on your site, it will cost less than if you need us to create the content for you. If you have existing content but want it updated for SEO best practices, it may increase the cost.
Integration: If your site requires integration with other elements of your business or across the web, the cost may increase depending on the complexity of those integrations.
Previous Website(s): If the new website is a combination of two different websites, additional work may be needed to direct traffic from the other websites, which can increase the cost.
Training: If you want your in-house team to be able to manage the website in the future, training may be required, which can add to the overall cost.
Urgency: If you need the website completed on an accelerated timeline, it will cost more due to the increased resources required to meet the deadline.
E-commerce: If your website requires e-commerce capabilities, such as a shopping cart, payment processing, and inventory management, it will likely cost more than a basic informational website.
Ongoing maintenance and support: If you require ongoing maintenance, updates, and technical support for your website, this will be an additional cost to consider. OEPMA offers affordable maintenace plans. Many of our web design clients stay on with us after we design for peace of mind about their website.
These are just some of the factors that can impact the final cost of your website project. For an accurate quote tailored to your specific needs, please reach out to us, and we’ll be happy to discuss the details of your project and provide you with a detailed proposal.
How long will it take to have my site designed and functional?
The timeline for designing and launching your website largely depends on the scope of the work. One of the most significant factors affecting the timeframe is your content. If you have your content ready to go and don’t require any SEO optimization, the project will likely take less time to complete.
On average, our projects take anywhere from one to three months to complete and deploy on the web. This can vary based on factors such as:
- Design complexity and revisions
- Content creation and optimization
- Functionality and integration requirements
- Your availability for feedback and approvals
- Your quickness in sending any requested assets
- Our current workload and project queue
If you don’t have an existing website, we can place a temporary page on your URL featuring your branding and a message indicating that your new website is under development. This allows you to start directing people to your website and even receive submissions from potential clients if your business is service-based.
To ensure a smooth and efficient process, we work closely with our clients to establish clear project milestones, communication channels, and deadlines. We also provide regular updates on the progress of your website development to keep you informed throughout the process.
For a more accurate estimate of how long it will take to design and launch your website, please reach out to us with details about your project, and we’ll be happy to provide you with a personalized timeline based on your specific requirements.
What is web design?
Web design is the process of creating a website that communicates a business’s brand, products, and services to visitors. It involves incorporating various elements such as branding, images, and information, and presenting them in a cohesive manner. The goal is to enable potential customers or clients to quickly understand the key messages and value propositions of the business. Web design plays a crucial role in guiding users towards taking specific actions, whether it’s contacting the company for a service or making a purchase.
What is web development?
Web design focuses on the visual elements and layout of a web page, while web development ensures that the website functions properly. For example, web design is concerned with the appearance of a submission form, including its colors and fonts. On the other hand, web development ensures that the form works as intended, securely transmitting the submitted information to the business for follow-up with potential clients. This may simply be to an email or account or it could be more complex using API to go into customer relationship management software.
Web development encompasses a wide range of tasks, such as hosting, website functionality, plugin management for WordPress, analytics management, and tag manager software configuration, among other responsibilities.
A helpful analogy is to think of a website as a car. The exterior (web design) is sleek, an attractive color, has stylish wheels, and a beautiful appearance.
However, without a functioning engine (web development), the car remains stationary, serving no purpose beyond being admired.
Just as a car requires both a well-designed exterior and a properly functioning engine to serve its purpose, a website needs both web design and web development to achieve its goals and provide a valuable user experience and create business opportunities for entity who owns the website.
What does responsive web design mean?
Responsive web design is a technique that ensures websites renders across various devices, primarily desktop computers, tablets (such as iPads), and smartphones. While it was once a buzzword, responsive design has become a standard expectation for modern websites. With over 60% of web traffic originating from mobile devices, it is essential that your site is designed to adapt seamlessly to different screen sizes and resolutions.
When designing for multiple devices, you must consider user experience. Due to the limited screen real estate on mobile devices compared to desktop computers, presenting information requires more than simply stacking the same content vertically. In some cases, certain elements may need to be omitted or simplified in the mobile design to ensure usability and readability.
Professional web designers and developers can analyze your existing content and provide guidance on how to effectively convey your information across different devices. They can help you prioritize content, streamline navigation, and create a responsive design that delivers a consistent and engaging user experience.
What should be the goal of my website?
The primary objective of your website should be to convert as many visitors as possible into clients or customers. While having an aesthetically pleasing website is important, it should not come at the expense of functionality. If the “pretty” elements of your website slow down its loading time, causing users to instantly leave, even the most visually stunning website will likely fail to generate business.
At OEPMA, we consistently emphasize this point. The purpose of your website design should be to effectively communicate information about your products or services and your target audience, persuading visitors to contact you or make a purchase. Your goal shouldn’t be to impress your family, friends, and competitors with a visually appealing website; instead, focus on creating a site that effectively converts visitors into customers.
You may be wondering, “What does this mean for my business?” It’s a valid question, and the answer depends on factors such as your industry, target audience, and the products or services you offer.
To illustrate, consider the following example: If it’s 100 degrees outside and your air conditioning suddenly stops working, are you likely to spend time scrutinizing the finer details of an HVAC company’s website? Probably not.
In this scenario, a massive “CALL NOW” button at the top of the page would likely be sufficient to generate business.
However, if you’re a lawyer handling high-stakes cases with fees potentially reaching five or six digits, your website’s design and content strategy will need to be more nuanced and tailored to your target audience’s expectations and decision-making process.
The key is to understand your audience and their needs, and then design your website accordingly. While some businesses may benefit from a straightforward, action-oriented approach, others may require a more sophisticated and informative website that builds trust.
Do you host my website after you create it?
We offer hosting services, but our clients have a variety of hosting arrangements. Some clients host their websites with us, while others have their own hosting providers.
The choice ultimately depends on your specific situation. If you already have reliable hosting and only require work on your website, there’s no need to change your hosting setup.
If you’re starting a new website from scratch and need hosting, we can guide you through the process of setting it up. Alternatively, if you prefer us to handle the hosting, we can do so for a monthly fee. It’s all about what makes you most comfortable.
If your current hosting is subpar and hindering your website’s performance, you may need to consider making a change in conjunction with your website redesign.
